Of course we all are aware that schools are closed for the remainder of the year but what we might not know is the emotional impact this has caused on many graduating seniors. We decided to interview our very own employee and senior at Upper Arlington High School, Madeline Melragon.
It’s that time of year when we select a cause that resonates with us and help make a difference through our annual event, Shine for a Cause. It is our opportunity to support women throughout the month of March, in honor of International Women’s Day. This event is your chance to support local organizations that encourage the growth and strength of women. It truly is one of our favorite events of the year. We love getting to know the organization from the inside out. We try our best to meet staff and volunteers and one of us will visit the organization and connect with those who benefit from the cause. This year, we became acquainted with Fairy Goodmothers, dedicated to promoting confidence and self-esteem in Central Ohio high school girls. We are so excited to share their story and truly make a difference.
Too often in the jewelry business we speak about those that are in love and ready to make big commitments, like engagements and celebrating milestone anniversaries. However, many of our customers are independent women who are making self purchases, and some of those women are in relationships, but many are not. Our customers are the CEO’s of businesses, volunteers of local organizations, moms showing their daughters what it is like to be a confident woman and so much more. The point is, our customers are mainly women in diverse situations all with a common bond of individual style.
So, this Valentine’s we thought it might be interesting to share a different spin on love. Just like our customers have different stories, so do their dating experiences. We have seen and heard enough love stories to know many things work in finding the right person and if your heart is ready, there is someone out there for everyone. And if you choose to not find that person that’s ok too. Love comes in many different forms including things we are passionate about. Just be you and be happy.
But for those looking for a new way of dating, we interviewed someone we thought had a really interesting story and professional background in connecting love matches.
Meet Nicci Sprouse-Grosso.
She has a great love story of her own, years of executive matchmaking experience and a new venture with her husband which is a social club for singles. (more…)Continue Reading
“From Berkshire Hathaway and Wal-Mart to small stores everywhere, about 90% of all U.S. businesses are family-owned or controlled by a family. Family businesses generate over 50% of the US Gross National Product (GNP).” – Forbes.com
“Our business is about people, not status or bling per se, but marking moments and milestones in relationships with beautiful, well-made works of art. Whatever the importance of the event or size of the gift, the icon and presentation must be special and unique.” – Robert Argo, owner
My first introduction to the Argo family was when Robert, now my husband of 40 years, took me home to present to his parents as his bride-to-be. I was terrified! I had heard so much about this prominent, illustrious family. The family business, Argo & Lehne Jewelers, was an incomparable icon in Columbus, Ohio. I grew up on a farm in Iowa, far removed geographically and culturally from this world. Or so I thought.Continue Reading
As we approach Fourth of July, we honor our country’s freedom and the wonderful opportunities we’ve been given. We are so fortunate for the fortitude of young “Dickie” Argo, an immigrant watchmaker from Scotland, who opened his own jewelry store in 1924.
How is it that we have preserved his small store and weathered the big box brands, chain stores and on-line shopping? The simple answer is through the loyalty of our customers.
But why do they choose A&L over and over? It’s clear our customers understand the benefits of supporting local business owners. (more…)Continue Reading
Besides the normal chatter of jewelry inside the walls of Argo & Lehne, you will often hear discussions of our favorite restaurants, events, cocktails, day trips and of course, everything art based. Perhaps the commonality began with our passion for jewelry but it’s clear we also share a love for Columbus and all it has to offer. So, we begin our first installment of what will most likely be many of “Argo Approved”- our wonderful experiences about town and what makes us want to keep coming back!
As International Women’s Day approaches, I found myself thinking of the many influential women in our business that have astounded me with their talent and determination. One woman in particular is Sharon Wei, a local Columbus jewelry designer who focuses on freshwater pearls from her home country of China.
In 2004, a beautiful, vivacious and visibly pregnant young Sharon walked through the doors of Argo & Lehne with no scheduled appointment. As a side note, when Sharon walks into a room she has a happy glow that is truly infectious. Of course we were drawn to her persuasive personality, but when she showed us the quality and design of her workmanship we were hooked. She landed her first big account and we landed one of our hottest lines and a friend for life.

Their mission is to empower survivors of human trafficking to build a new life of freedom and self-sufficiency. They believe that those who have lived in slavery should be empowered through economic independence. Not only do they provide support services and workforce training, but they actually employ 25-30 females who are all survivors of human trafficking. The survivors employed must be referred by a program and have completed a drug and alcohol recovery program before their start.Continue Reading
