There are a few strong trends in bridal engagement at the moment to include, solitaires, vintage inspired rings and all mountings that emphasize the center stone with a thinner shank; however, the most common of all requests is something unusual. The Custom Engagement Ring Process
Meet with an A&L Sales Associate
You may not be sure if custom is for you but through the process of meeting with a sales associate this will be determined. Walk-ins are welcome, yet setting up an appointment can also assist in preparing the sales associate in advance for your meeting. Upon your first meeting they will be able to bring well thought out ideas to the table. In this meeting you will determine all requested preferences such as metal type, stone selection, style, etc…
Rough Sketches
This is often done as you are with your sales associate but at times it may take further thought and ideas. The sales associate will send you information and design ideas through hand drawn renderings or by illustrating different detailed components in existing rings.
CAD (Computer Aided Design)
Once a preliminary design has been created the sales associate will have a CAD completed and you will be able to see the ring in 3D. This takes much of the guess work out of the design as you can see every angle. Minor changes will be made and the final design will be created and quoted. Some complex designs will require a 3D wax and this is a great opportunity to truly see the entire piece up close before the final ring is cast. There really aren’t any surprises at this point as you have seen each angle and detail of the piece. If there are any concerns regarding the piece structurally or aesthetically the sales associate will address this with the client.
Proceeding the Design
Once the design is proceeded, the ring generally takes 4-6 weeks for completion. The entire process usually takes no more than 8 weeks from the time of the initial consultation and sometimes sooner. It really depends on the back and forth and response time from the client.
