Dating in the City: An Interview With Nicci Sprouse-Grosso

Too often in the jewelry business we speak about those that are in love and ready to make big commitments, like engagements and celebrating milestone anniversaries. However, many of our customers are independent women who are making self purchases,  and some of those women are in relationships, but many are not. Our customers are the CEO’s of businesses, volunteers of local organizations, moms showing their daughters what it is like to be a confident woman and so much more. The point is, our customers are mainly women in diverse situations all with a common bond of individual style.

So, this Valentine’s we thought it might be interesting to share a different spin on love. Just like our customers have different stories, so do their dating experiences. We have seen and heard enough love stories to know many things work in finding the right person and if your heart is ready, there is someone out there for everyone. And if you choose to not find that person that’s ok too. Love comes in many different forms including things we are passionate about. Just be you and be happy.

But for those looking for a new way of dating, we interviewed someone we thought had a really interesting story and professional background in connecting love matches.

Meet Nicci Sprouse-Grosso.

She has a great love story of her own, years of executive matchmaking experience and a new venture with her husband which is a social club for singles. (more…)

Art at Argo’s: Deborah Melton Anderson

As the weather changes and the snow falls it seemed only appropriate to adorn our showroom walls with the intricate and cozy quilts of Deborah Melton Anderson. It’s been our plan to eventually add textiles to our Art at Argo’s exhibition and it is with great pleasure that we found Deborah and her gorgeous quilt-making. We love her approach of traditional styles and hand stitching integrated with modern machine stitching. It is this method combined with Deborah’s imaginative way of creating perfectly appointed patterns that really sets her quilt work apart.

About the Artist

Deborah has come a long way from her days in her small hometown of Columbia, Missouri. It was there where she learned to sew at an early age and made much of her dolls’ clothing. She stayed in Columbia and attended University of Missouri. Later when her father, a college educator, accepted a position at a university in New York, it took little convincing for Deborah to decide to follow her family. It was the perfect opportunity for Deborah to spread her wings and experience a new type of lifestyle in the big city. She was accepted to Barnard College in Manhattan and found the experience truly opened her eyes in new way. The city definitely exposed Deborah to new ideas through museums and lifestyles. Although, art was not her major in college, she later received her Masters of Art in Teaching at Harvard University. It was there where she would meet her husband-to-be. In 1960 their paths brought them to Columbus, Ohio. After all, her husband was originally from the state.

As sewing had always been a part of Deborah’s life, it came quite naturally to incorporate her teaching skills with her hobby. She taught quilting techniques at Quilt Surface Design Symposium (QSDS). She was also a member of the Art Quilt Network for many years and it was there that she really began to share ideas with other members in the group which helped hone her skills, techniques and ideas. Deborah was also a member of The Liturgical Art Guild of Ohio. This resource for many congregations was “the place” for them to locate artists to create religious pieces for their churches. In fact, this is where Deborah began much of her commissioned work for churches and Jewish temples. A few of many items she has created are Torah covers and wedding chuppahs. Today, this is still a favorite for Deborah. She mainly only accepts commissions from churches and then focuses on selling the quilts she continues to make for her own enjoyment.

A Wedding Story – Jenna & Kate

Jenna & Kate – 11.2.2019

Jewelry from Argo: Jenna’s ring set and Kate’s wedding band.

Theme: Festive Fall Warmth – a beautiful November wedding that was not tied to a particular holiday but seasonal, welcoming, and romantic.

Venue: The Boat House at Confluence Park

“We selected The Boat House because we thought it would be absolutely perfect for a November wedding. Because we had a lot of Kate’s family coming in from Chicago, we wanted a venue that was close to the Short North, Downtown, and Ohio State University. The view of downtown from the Buckeye Room at The Boat House is unbelievable!”

Something Borrowed?

“Yes! Jenna borrowed gorgeous pearl and diamond earrings from Argo & Lehne.”

Welcome to the “B” Collection by Gumuchian

Gumuchian Jewelry Store

What’s the Buzz this Summer at Argo? The “B” Collection by Gumuchian

It’s arrived and just in time for the summer! Love at first sight, we fell head over heels for this exquisitely crafted bee inspired line by the high-end designer, Gumuchian. And of course, we couldn’t resist when we found that a portion of the sale goes back to the bees!

Being in the industry for years, we know fine jewelry when we see it. Gumuchian is just that. Their name has earned a well-established reputation in the diamond and jewelry industry due to their superior craftsmanship and spectacular design. Just holding a Gumuchian piece is a delight, you immediately notice the high quality the moment you interact with the jewelry.

This bee-inspired collection is available in 18 karat yellow, white and rose gold as well as platinum. Many of the shapes are hexagonal to reflect the bee’s hive. The way the diamonds contrast with the beautiful metals and the negative hex space is just striking! Below is just a sample of the rich and bold designs of the “B” collection. View the whole Gumuchian collection here.

Art at Argo’s: Abby Feinknopf

“Snowy Garden”, acrylic on canvas framed in gold.

With October being breast cancer awareness month, we were overjoyed to have the talented local artist and cancer survivor, Abby Feinknopf, join us this quarter for Art at Argo’s. I was uplifted the first time I was introduced to her work. Abby, a survivor of breast cancer, turned to painting just after she was diagnosed. The act of making art every day and the power of bold, vibrant colors is what helped her through it. She now strives to encourage and empower others with her work. Her exhibit at Argo & Lehne is as cheerful and bright as her personality and positive outlook.

We introduce you to her Art at Argo’s Exhibit: “The Power of Color” July 29 – Oct 25.  In addition, we will have an Art Opening on Thursday, August 15th from 5-7 pm. You will have an opportunity to meet Abby in person to discuss her work and her encouraging story of healing through art.

Argo Approved: Oakland Interiorscapes

Oakland Nurseries, so much more than a horticulture nursery, offering wedding and event decor.

Oakland Nurseries; a family owned business that has been around for almost 80 years, has always been my “go to” plant store with one of the widest selections of plants. On the rare occasion that I’m unable to find what I’m looking for, they’ve always been more than willing to order it. I love the neighborhood feel and the customer service has always exceeded my expectations. I even had a sales associate reach out to me asking how I was enjoying the fountain I purchased. In my experience, this just doesn’t happen at every nursery.

I was aware that Oakland had services such as landscaping experts for commercial and residential spaces but didn’t realize that they have an Interiorscapes division that is dedicated to special events and custom décor. The Oakland Interiorscapes offers a wide selection of plant material for rent as well as many other green elements to make your wedding unique and magical. I can attest to their gorgeous designs, as I recently saw their work at the Garden Party Event at the Columbus Museum of Art. (more…)
