Hawkes Crystal: Handcut in Tiffin Ohio

I first encountered encountered Hawkes Crystal at a pop-up shop at the Columbus Museum of Art. The shop sat on a sunny day in Derby Court. You couldn’t miss the sparkling crystal under the glass ceiling. These were not your standard crystal pieces. It was clear this cut glass work was that of a master craftsman. And in fact, I soon learned of Hawkes Crystal’s owner & Brilliant Master Cutter, Aidan Scully.

We are pleased to announce that Hawkes Crystal is now available at Argo & Lehne Jewelers. The collection will make you swoon & remember the luxuries of brilliant pasts. The romance of each piece is etched in craftsmanship. We love how Hawkes Crystal has taken the original T.G. Hawkes & Company patterns of past and has created gorgeous contemporary pieces perfect for interiors of today.  (more…)

Get Together. Be Bold. Support Local.

Women in the community making a difference. Patricia Ammendola (customer and friend) joins forces with A&L to raise money for a passionate cause-LifeCare Alliance.

Last year we initiated Shine for a Cause, a store promotion which donated a percentage from purchases back to 4 local female organizations, which included Freedom a la Cart, the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research, Choices for victims of domestic violence and Dress for Success. The event was a complete success and a definite “feel good” activity for the store and our customers. During the planning of the event, I shared much of the knowledge of each organization with friends in the area and soon realized so many of our friends & customers have causes that they regularly serve on boards and as volunteer. I’ve continued to get acquainted with other local organizations more intimately and made a personal promise that each year we’ll connect with a cause and give back!  This city has so many great opportunities for doing just that so it was a difficult decision to select just one. I am very excited to announce our involvement this March with LifeCare Alliance, to help share their mission and make an impact. (more…)

Argo Approved: Fred Astaire Dance Studio Northwest Columbus

Fred Astaire Columbus Northwest

It was nearly two years ago that I met Daniel Tackett, owner of Fred Astaire Dance Studio Northwest (just off Bethel Rd). We’d met briefly at a networking event and when he told me he was affiliated with the dance studio, I remember thinking, “how can we create a partnership with Argo & Lehne?” I’m a lover of dance: the grace, fluidity and confidence that exudes dancers is simply captivating to me. She received in total, 141 votes from our Facebook followers! We enjoyed her work so much that we asked her to exhibit, and we are grateful for her kind acceptance.

Get Together. Be Bold. Support Women.

Sharon WeiAs International Women’s Day approaches, I found myself thinking of the many influential women in our business that have astounded me with their talent and determination. One woman in particular is Sharon Wei, a local Columbus jewelry designer who focuses on freshwater pearls from her home country of China.

In 2004, a beautiful, vivacious and visibly pregnant young Sharon walked through the doors of Argo & Lehne with no scheduled appointment.  As a side note, when Sharon walks into a room she has a happy glow that is truly infectious. Of course we were drawn to her persuasive personality, but when she showed us the quality and design of her workmanship we were hooked. She landed her first big account and we landed one of our hottest lines and a friend for life.

Freedom a la CartThe Who

Freedom a la Cart is a unique approach to catering through cause cuisine. They offer a large, tasty selection of culinary delights from breakfast ‘til dinner such as bacon wrapped dates, or their signature box lunches.

Their mission is to empower survivors of human trafficking to build a new life of freedom and self-sufficiency. They believe that those who have lived in slavery should be empowered through economic independence. They are committed to training members of the community on the issue surrounding human trafficking in Franklin Country, as well as providing care to survivors.

Not only do they provide support services and workforce training, but they actually employ 25-30 females who are all survivors of human trafficking. The survivors employed must be referred by a program and have completed a drug and alcohol recovery program before their start.

Shine for a Cause: The Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research

The Who

The Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research was founded in 1998 at Ohio State’s Comprehensive Cancer Center—James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, or (OSUUCCC—James). The Spielman Fund was created to ensure that both the current needs of breast cancer research, as well as the long-term vision, are provided for. Therefore, the Spielman fund consists of both endowment and current use funds. Current use funds are fully expended during a short period of time, giving them immediate impact, while endowed funds are invested and maintained in perpetuity to provide long-term impact. Which, is important, as the endowed funds ensure the OSUCCC—James can drive the fight against breast cancer, no matter how the economy is performing.

The Stefanie Spielman Comprehensive Breast Center itself is the first of its kind. The center offers the full continuum of breast cancer care. The full continuum of care offers prevention and screening through detection, diagnosis, treatment and survivorship all-in-one. Coining the term, “Don’t get a routine mammogram. Get a James mammogram”.
